Prof. Umberto Berardi
Prof Umberto Berardi is President of the International Association of Building Physics (IABP) and Full Professor of Energy Systems at the Politecnico di Bari. From 2014 to 2024 he served as Full Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University, where he directed the BeTOP Centre and held the Canada Research Chair in Building Science (2021–2024). His research centres on innovative materials and technologies that boost building performance, with a particular focus on integrating nanotechnology—such as organic bio-phase-change materials and granular aerogel—into building systems. Dr Berardi has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed journal papers.
Prof. Aris Tsangrassoulis
Aris Tsangrassoulis is a professor at the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly and director of the Sustainable Design of the Building Environment Laboratory. His research activity focuses on the design of low-energy buildings, the development of techniques to achieve lighting energy savings, the design of daylighting systems and the impact of building design and operation on thermal/optical comfort.
Emer. Prof. Maria Founti
Emerita Maria Founti is Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering, NTUA, where she served from 1987 to 2023. She directed the Laboratory of Heterogeneous Mixtures and Combustion Systems and held a chair in the Thermal Engineering Section. She holds a Ph.D. in Combustion Technology from Imperial College London and has held research positions in Germany and the UK. Her research focuses on energy efficiency in buildings, advanced energy systems, combustion technologies, fire safety, and sustainability assessments. She has authored over 250 publications and coordinated more than 40 research projects. Prof. Founti has served on several national and European advisory boards, including the EC's External Advisory Board, Built4People, and various Greek ministries and energy bodies. She speaks English, German, French, and Portuguese.
Dr. Ebru Canan- Sokullu
Dr. Ebru Canan- Sokullu is the Senior Resource Mobilisation Specialist at UNITAR's Division for People. She leads the UNITAR Global Water Academy. Previously, she was Dean of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences at Bahcesehir University, Istanbul, where she chaired Political Science and International Relations and directed the Otto and Fran Walter Rotary Peace Centre. Dr. Canan-Sokullu is a research scholar at Cambridge and Ohio State and she has received prestigious fellowships, including the Marie Curie fellowship. She is an expert on foreign policy, immigration, EU studies with various publications on Turkish politics and international relations.
